Actress Jennifer Lopez (49) and super model Miranda Kerr (35) swear by it. Also in Silicon Valley, intermittent fasting is meanwhile considered a reliable method for achieving personal weight and health goals. In this blog post, you’ll find out which celebrities in particular believe in the method and how they use fasting for themselves. Time to get some inspiration!
It’s no secret that most celebrities work hard for their bodies: In addition to sweaty workouts, many torture themselves with strict diets such as the low carb diet. Gwyneth Paltrow and Kourtney Kardashian have even completely given up sugar, lactose and gluten.
Sounds exhausting and like little fun? It is! So it’s no surprise that many celebrities prefer to rely on an easier and more natural method to keep fit, slim and healthy: intermittent fasting.
If you are not familiar with it (yet): When practicing intermittent fasting, you eat your meals in a certain time window, e.g. within eight hours. During your fasting period, you only have water, tea or coffee without additives. In the remaining hours outside this period you just eat as usual.
The method has several advantages. For example, it does not require a strict diet plan. In addition, it can be flexibly integrated into your daily routine and has a very positive effect on your mental and physical health.
Famous fasting enthusiasts are, among others, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, Heidi Klum and Miranda Kerr. But there are also many male intermittent fasting fans. Hollywood star Hugh Jackman got fit for his role in Wolverine with intermittent fasting, for example. Also Tesla boss and multi-billionaire Elon Musk is an advocate of fasting and managed to lose 20 lbs (9 kg) with the help of regular eating breaks, as he announced on Twitter. Other successful Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, including Jack Dorsey, use intermittent fasting as a means of biohacking.
How exactly the celebrities mentioned above benefit from fasting and what intermittent fasting tips they have in store, you can find out in the following sections.
Jennifer Aniston: 16-8 (skipping breakfast), workouts and meditation
“I do intermittent fasting and I don’t eat breakfast in the morning,” Jennifer Aniston told “RadioTimes” when asked about her beauty secret.
“When practicing 16:8, I go without solid food and caloric drinks for about 16 hours a day. Then, for the remaining eight hours, I follow a balanced nutrition without counting calories. I don’t follow a specific diet.”
Before Jennifer eats her first meal at 1 p.m., she treats herself to a meditation session and a workout. “I soon noticed the benefits of fasting in my body,” the 50-year-old states.
Inspired by the method, Jennifer even infected her friend and fellow actress Reese Witherspoon with her passion for intermittent fasting when she asked her for wellness tips. Now, Reese herself says that Jennifer is her “inspiration and at the same time the best coach.”
Heidi Klum: 16-8 (skipping dinner) and power broth
You rarely see supermodel Heidi Klum eating later than 5 p.m. Why? Because she relies on 16-8 fasting, skipping dinner. “But after my 16-hour meal break,” the 49-year-old said, “I always need my power soup.”
What this power soup looks like? She stirs 3 eggs into some clear broth until they start to falter.
That’s actually a great advise. Because soups, especially those high in protein, are a great way to break a fast.

Miranda Kerr: Intermittent fasting and 80:20
Supermodel Miranda Kerr takes intermittent fasting to the next level by combining it with the 80:20 method. She eats 80 percent healthy foods during her meal periods, focusing on fresh, unprocessed food with plenty of vegetables, healthy fats and protein. For the other 20 percent of her diet, she goes with a more relaxed approach.
“Intermittent fasting doesn’t mean you have to completely give up on your favourite foods. In my meal periods, I also allow myself something sweet from time to time,” the 39-year-old says.
And it is precisely this flexibility that makes Intermittent fasting so sustainable and suitable for everyday use.
You don’t have to forbid yourself anything and still reach your goals.
Jennifer Lopez: 16-8, HIIT training and “Carbs ’til 2:30”
At least since Jennifer Lopez’ runway performance at the 2019 Versace show in Milan, the whole world has been wondering, “How can you still look THAT good at age 50?”
The answer is pretty simple: intermittent fasting!
Like many other stars, Jennifer relies on 16-8 when it comes to fasting, combining her daily eating breaks with regular HIIT workouts and the “Carbs ’til 2:30” rule.
HIIT is an intense interval training program that supports fat burning. Jennifer does her workouts 5 times a week during her fasting period.
In addition, the singer limits her carb intake to the morning and midday. In this time window she eats, for example, bread, pasta, legumes and the like.
After half past three she reaches for protein-rich foods such as meat, fish and cheese, as well as plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and salad. Jennifer begins her 16-hour fasting period in the late afternoon.
Hugh Jackman: 16-8, strength training and high-protein meals
One thing’s for sure, without strength training and a high-protein diet, building muscles is nearly impossible. So it’s no surprise that Hugh Jackman worked out several hours a day and ate numerous servings of scrambled eggs and chicken breast to get his ripped Wolverine body.
However, Jack also took advantage of intermittent fasting – or, to be more precise, of one of the little-known benefits of the method – to get in shape for his role: Fasting, in fact, increases the release of growth hormones that support muscle growth. Regular food breaks are therefore also an effective secret tip for achieving a more defined body.
Elon Musk: 16-8 and moderate exercise
Tesla CEO Elon Musk started intermittent fasting on the advice of a friend. “I feel much healthier since then,” he wrote on Twitter.
In response to questions from his followers, the tech boss provided further details: he is now already more than nine kilos below his previous maximum weight. In addition, he revealed that he only includes “moderate physical activity” in his daily routine.
So, saying that losing weight is only possible with excessive training is definitely is a myth.
Jack Dorsey: Biohacking with 22-2
The founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, also admitted to being a big fan of intermittent fasting years ago. He uses the method (like many other entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley) as a form of “biohacking”.
What is biohacking? The term refers to the approach of optimizing one’ s body and its performance through biological, chemical or technical measures (“hacks”).
Dorsey sees intermittent fasting as a natural and effective method for exactly this purpose. Regular breaks from eating, for example, boost autophagy, meaning the “renewal” of cells.
“I fast for 22 hours every day. Then in the evening, I treat myself to a protein- and nutrient-rich dinner.”
Going without food helps him focus better and live more consciously, he says. “When the day is not interrupted by breakfast and lunch, there is much more time for other things.”
